Today by buddy Pat and I went up to Wakodahatchee and Green Cay in the Delray/Boynton Beach area.  We found absolutely nothing going on at Wako, but we were told that there was a Roseate Spoonbill sighting at Green Cay this morning.  We flew over there, but didn’t see any Spoonbills.  We did see a variety of birds though, including Limpkins.  Limpkins were everywhere!  Must be mating season…

The “Sunrise Sky” photo was slightly enhanced in Photoshop, but if you were up to see the sky this morning in this part of town, it was quite lovely.  Pat and I had a wonderful day today and yesterday out on the boat (still working on those photos).  

All the photography in this particular gallery, with the exception of the “Sunrise Sky” and “Turtle Reflection,” was shot with my new Tokina 80-400.  I used my tripod like a monopod today and as long as nobody was passing us on the boardwalks, I think it took some pretty great photos.  Enjoy and Happy New Year!

My daughter and I took a trip to my Grandma's farm today for a little early Christmas celebrating.  While there, we went for a walk around the land and happened upon this piece of farm equipment.  I shot this picture in black and white and bumped the contrast slightly in Photoshop.

All comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

I have not been doing anything with Photoshop. I have been too busy trying to get used to taking digial photos.To me it has been quite a challenge.So here is my first attempt.

With the challenge deadline quickly approaching, I decided to get at least ONE new picture submitted.  I saw the flag out in front of the main building here at the Chaska site, and decided to take a picture.  I know I've already submitted something similar in the past but this picture has a story.

It was cold outside, with the wind driving the "feels like" temp down to a point where a seemingly bright guy like myself might think to don a jacket (no such luck).  Freezing, with an ice cold camera in my quickly numbing hands, I tried to get a good shot of the Beckman sign with the flag flapping patriotically in the wind.  Only one problem, someone decided to put a light pole right in my way making it impossible to get a shot of the sign without the flag covering part of it up.  There was no time for cursing, as my short sleeved shirt wasn't providing much protection from the elements, so I took a few shots and hoped for the best.  Back at my PC, I found a shot that I liked (sort of) but of course the flag was obscuring part of the Beckman sign.  That’s when I decided to fire up Photoshop and see if I could give this shot a chance.  The attached picture is the result. The 'A' and 'N' at the end of Beckman were completely fabricated in Photoshop (one of the more challenging things I've done so far).

Alright, a lot of hot air for nothing, but it was fun none the less.

I was cataloging images and came across a few more candidates for the current challenge.

These are all from various trips through Sabino Canyon near Tucson, AZ.

Fall_5506 (Sabino Fall) has my wife and youngest daughter although you may have to look a bit to find them.

JM_7603 (I Spy...) is a stretch for inclusion. I photoshoped the tint on my father-in-law's glasses. Just in case you are wondering, my daughter was looking through her imaginary binoculars and insisted her grandpa look through his as well.

Those models and stars that most women are measuring themselves against actually don't "exist" as you perceive them, thanks to Photoshop.

Select the photos and roll over/off them to reveal how bad the original photos looked before manipulations were done. Notice how they were manipulated, and in how many unexpected ways.

The one of Beyonce shows a little roll that is PS'd out. I think it is cool to correct/adjust or even just play with photos (there are some purists that
cringe at the thought) so long as the original was kept intact and used for comparisons.

My PS skills are minimal at this point, I have a couple of books and I will actually try to read my way through.

Perhaps I'll even take a class at some point.

I've had a chance to sort through more of my vacation photos.  Each of these images is made by stitching 2 or more photos together in photoshop (the most was 5).  The hardest part of stitching is getting each image to have the same exposure value.  Even though the shots were taken just a second apart, the amount of bright and dark scenery in the frame can change the camera's exposure value slightly.  The solution is to either fix in photoshop (which I did for most) or to set the camera to manual and take the same aperture and shutter speed for all photos in the series (I did this once, and it had the least amount of manipulation in photoshop).  I hope they render well on this site!

I'm not posting these pics because I think that they are good...rather that they are cool and a unique site to see at work. For the past 2 days this Osprey has found a home atop our buildings here in Miami.  These were all shot at 200mm with my 18-200 lens.  I did my best!

The Osprey is a predator bird. Their basic requirements are water and fish, which is why this one may have been drawn to our lake. These birds are unmistakable when you see them soaring, as they kink their wings at a "wrist" and form the M-shaped crook in its wings. They can have up to a 6' wing span!  The picture that I took of this bird in flight was really bad (I admit it), so I used a neon filter in Photoshop to highlight its wing shape.

This was taken shortly before sunrise with a streetlight behind a young oak tree. Oak1 is the original and in Oak2 I used Irfanview to over-sharpen and darken the image for a kind of graphic art feel. All additional permutations were achieved with the “replace color” adjustment in Photoshop.

In keeping with the theme, here are some cloud shots I took while on vacation last week.  Not as dramatic as Kevin, Josh, Dave and Mangoes', but sill, I think there are some nice ones. I consider these “snapshots” since they were all taken from a moving car with no time for proper composition. (Don’t worry, my wife was driving) “Shining Through” is the only one from Kentucky. I was trying to get a picture of an old colonial house, but my camera was set to spot metering and the “spot” was just above the top of the roof. So I cropped out the house, which just turned out as a big black square. The rest were taken on our way home as we drove south through Central Florida. “Lucky Shot” was just that. Buzzards were circling over the road near Lake Okeechobee but I didn’t notice them until it was almost too late. My camera was on the car floor near my feet. I picked it up, turned it on, tilted it up from my lap and shot straight up through the windshield (literally shooting from the hip). I didn’t even notice the birds in the shot when I previewed it on my camera. There are three birds; can you spot the other two?  I’ve also included “Original Leafless Trio” so you can compare it with my Photoshopped version.

I usually do not have enough patience to try out new things in Photoshop, but this picture really was the perfect one to try this photo effect on.

As most of you know I have been unable to post for over 10 days. This test 30-2.
If you are having problems uploading to the BCI site do the following.

1. delete any new software that you may have loaded and see if the BCI site now works.
   
2. Deleted your link to BCI Photo Club and then re-enter it.
   
3. BCI Photo site is not compatable with the following from my testing. Google destop; AOL photoshop; AOL Desktop. If you have linked through Yahoo and are using AOL desktop it will not work.
   
4. If you are a Bata tester for AOL you are not compatable with the BCI photo site.

Hi All,

My cousin in Texas sent me a few photos of her son & classmates at space camp. The snaps were all dark and so I cleaned them up in photoshop and sent them back plus a couple of shots as a treat for her son.

I added his name to the suit and made a magazine cover (Space & Air really exists).

I did not hear from back from my cousin, so I didn't think it made an impact. A few days later, I was at my nephews birthday party and an aunt of ours asked me about the photo her sister (in Mexico) was all enthused about.

Jasmine Star, a precocious 3/yr old..,

I liked the color photo & it's downward perspective, but wanted to play around to see what would develop and I got this photo with a retro feel (the effect is called 'graphic pen').

She is such a sweet and loveable child.

She got a kids camera for xmas from her grandparents because she showed a keen interest in photography.

I have to say, she's got natural talent and due to her height, gets interesting upward perspective shots.

Hi All,
This post is a good example of multiple photos for one story....,

Here's some photos of a flower that was too dark and normally I would have deleted it.

I decided to use this image to play around in photo shop (I am pretty much learning as I go)
