Created by the Brea Photography club, the intent of the website is to provide an arena open to all Beckman’s facilities world wide for interested employees to show their artistic efforts and open dialog with the other chapters of the BCI photography community.
The club website is open to Beckman Employees, retirees, and to their friends & family. It is not open to the general public, but if your pal, brother, sister or neighbor are interested in photography and want to participate, they are welcome to. All we ask is that everyone be a responsible member; no hate-mail, fights, or post of photos that are not your own or worse yet, that would be considered offensive in any way.
This is a company funded club. Please do not post any photos that a prudent employer would object to. Any content deemed questionable will be deleted and we will ban your account
By becoming a member of the BCI Photo Club website, you are consenting to abide by these rules.
Why the rules?
This photography website viewed by people all across the globe. Like any large community, the BCI Photo Club has to have a set of rules or there would be chaos.
Flooding the front page
Everybody wants their day in the spotlight. When you post five stories in one day, you bump others off the front page. We ask you limit your posts on the front page of our site to once every day; it's only common courtesy.
Lurk before posting!
Do yourself and us a favor: Spend a week getting a feel for this place before posting a story or comment. You'll save yourself some embarrassment.
Before you comment
Ask yourself "does this comment contribute anything worthwhile to the poster's photographs or story?" If you can answer yes, then go ahead and reply. Otherwise, send a private message to the poster or commenter.
Flame Wars
Please do not use the open comments area to have the last word on anything. A flame war is an obvious thing, and it will be immediately deleted by the editors upon its notice. If you need to disagree with someone, do it via private messaging, and absolutely in a civilized manner.
Offensive Language
At no time will offensive language be acceptable. The editorial staff will delete your post, and if it becomes a problem, you will be banned from further participation.
Before posting a story
Before you post a story, ask yourself two things;
- "Will this post contribute anything interesting to this website?";
- "Could I tolerate the valid but possibly harsh criticism these photographs might receive?"
Harassment
This is not the place to harass anybody, doing so may get you banned for life.
Respect the editors
They exist to keep this place safe and sane. What they say is what goes.
Off-topic comments
We are here to discuss photography, not politics, not gossip, and not how ugly the guy in the picture is. Please don't drag a story with guns in the picture into a debate about gun control. These topics have nothing to do with photography.
Racism
This should go without saying. Racist comments will be deleted on sight and their authors will be banned.
We are NOT a free image host!
This site costs real money to run. We are not here to warehouse your images or your 3 gig family photo album that you don't plan to share as a story. This is not anyone’s personal platform, it is a photographic community. If you are using us as a free image host we will ban your account.
Photography Guidelines
The BCI Photo Club is about sharing your world as you see. Since we live in the real world, this sometimes means less than wholesome things wind up on film or digital images. And that is just fine, but use discretion posting your photos, ask yourself, this is the right place for it, do I really want my coworkers to see this?
Pornography
If it is not a safe image for work, do not post it. This is a company funded club. Please do not post any photos that a prudent employer would object to. Any content deemed questionable will be deleted and we will ban your account.
Illegal Activities
There is a difference between a camera phone shot of your buddies smoking pot and you using your Nikon D20 to take well thought photographs. If it is not safe for work, do not post it. This is a company funded club. Please do not post any photos that a prudent employer would object to. Any content deemed questionable will be deleted and we will ban your account.
Gore
If it is not safe for work, do not post it. This is a company funded club. Please do not post any photos that a prudent employer would object to. Any content deemed questionable will be deleted and we will ban your account.
The bottom line
If you have questions or concerns about an image on this website, please send an editor a private message. We ask this to prevent flame-wars in comments - if any member or anonymous contributor posts a comment disputing the appropriateness of an image, and that comment is deemed inflammatory at the Editor's discretion, that persons account may be banned from posting on the website anywhere from several hours to an indefinite period of time.
Legal Mumbo-Jumbo
A word to the wise and not-so-wise..,
We do not have to delete your images, comments or stories. When you use this site, you grant us non-exclusive, serial rights to publish your words and images. Why do we do this? When you post here, you are starting a discussion. By asking us to delete your work, you are breaking that discussion and insulting those who took the effort to contribute to it. Please don't ask us to remove your work, if you have any issues with sharing something, it is better to not share at all.
Do not steal
If you like someone’s photo, send them a private message requesting they email to you, it is the artist work and it is at their discretion to dispense permission. Your mom taught you not to steal, so this should be obvious to anybody who isn't a 6 year old. When you "right-click, save-as" somebody's photograph, you are stealing. Sure, it might only be stealing a penny or so, but you are still stealing. Don't steal.
Do not plagiarize
Please only present your artistic efforts. We do not condone that anyone post photograph that are pro-shots, other peoples work or photographs of other people’s work. We do not want to jeopardize our website because of this.
