I know that this is too late for the challenge, and don't really consider them contenders, but I found these in my archives and thought they fit the theme.
The first, Dumbo Lightspeed could have been sharper, but that Dumbo really zips along and I couldn't hold the camera steadily enough.
The second, a contrast to the all the fast motion entries, Slow and Easy is of two perfect strangers - I was glad to see these gentlemen out enjoying a beautiful, sunny California day!
These are a couple of slideshows containing more photos from the Moscow Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. Some photos are a bit blurry or out of focus, but I like them just the same as I enjoyed the show so much. Hope you like the photos and, as always, your comments or observations are quite welcome.
I was very fortunate to be able to attend the Moscow Ballet's production of the Nutcracker a couple of days ago.
Of course, I took my camera.
We were seated about five rows back, and obstructed by many wide and/or tall audience members, but I found myself a small window of clear view - that is unless someone shifted in their seat right as I snapped the shot - so many of my shots are in a portrait orientation.
I used my Nikon Coolpix S10 point-and-shoot. These were all handheld, no flash, and using 800 ISO, so please excuse the many obvious flaws. I just thought these were nice examples of the Challenge theme, motion.
Just a quick submission for the challenge of some photos snapped during our summer vacation:
Bride of Frankenstein's Monster and Visiting the Laboratory were taken at Universal Studios Hollywood in the House of Horrors exhibit.
Darth Maul was taken at Disneyland during one of the Jedi Training shows in which my little Paduan's kicked some Emperial . . . eh hmm. . . I digress.
And, the Pirate Skeleton was taken in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, also.
Scarier still, right now, is my work schedule. Haven't had a real chance to come in make meaningful comments, but I do try to pop in and see the beautiful submissions. You can see the hour at which I make this contribution. sigh!

Hello All!
I've been away for a while, just busy, busy, busy.
We did manage to take a short trip this summer to some of my favorite childhood places in Southern California.
Here are some of the photos I took that fit the Shot In The Dark category. They're not great shots, since I was not shooting "seriously."
I'll post more from our trip as I have time to sort through them.
This flower is one of my favorites here in the Southwest. El Paso, Texas is located in the Chihuahuan Desert, where both "green" and "blooms" are rare, so this plant is a double treat.
It is called by many names: Red Bird of Paradise, Mexican Bird of Paradise, Peacock Flower, Dwarf Poinciana, Pride of Barbados, or Flamboyan-De-Jardin (Caesalpinia pulcherrima).
I found out that it is a shrub growing to 8 feet tall native to tropical areas of the Americas. The divided leaves that are about 8 to 15 inches long, consist of 6 to 10 pairs of broad leaflets along the stem. The flowers grow on 8-inch long stalks and the seeds are borne in 6-inch pods.
This particular plant is fast becoming a popular addition to our city, since it is fast-growing and drought hearty.

Sometimes you want to post a couple of different themes in one shot, and you may not have the chance to come back around 24 hours later.
What are everyone else's thoughts about this?
This is a spiral honeycomb that some bees constructed by one of the rain gutters at our church. I estimate that it is 18 inches wide, and about 25 feet above the ground near the roofline of the building.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have never seen anything like this before in my life. I think it's simply amazing, and all I could think to say over and over was, "You are amazing, God!" . . . and the bees get an A+ for their work of art. :o)

Well, it's been a really long time since I have had a chance to log on and share. As you may know, I am a high school math teacher, and so I am now on my summer "vacation."
I say "vacation," because since the last day of school on June 6th, I've been working 60 hrs a week on curriculum for the district. That project should take about another week, then I'll really be on break.
Anyway, we have had a few days of R & R along the way, and one of them was Father' Day. We were also celebrating my oldest son's 14th birthday.
We set out the inflatable pool, broke out the water pistols, and also resorted to hosing each other down on that 104 degree day.
I did conspire with my husband to capture this moment that was "unexpected" for my daughter.
I know everyone is busy during this time of year with vacations and such, but begin thinking about getting any entries you have been holding out on soon!
Remember the category does not have to be surprises to persons, but may also include inanimate objects, art, or anything that makes one ask, "What were they thinking?"
We'll call Monday, June 30 the last day for entries, and then we can start the voting on Tuesday, July 1st.

That was totally unexpected! Thank you!!!
So, I hadn’t even entertained the thought that I might win and am now short a theme idea. What now? My inner dialogue went something like this:
“How unexpected! What do I do now? I really didn’t expect this. Theme. Theme. What’s a good theme? If I had even the slightest expectation I could win…”
Wait a minute … The new theme for this month could be “Unexpected”
I tried to quickly go through my archives to post an example, but came up empty. So, I went to the thesaurus and looked up some good synonyms to get us going.
Unexpected: abrupt, accidental, chance, fortuitous, impulsive, staggering, startling, surprising, unannounced, unanticipated, unforeseen, unheralded, unplanned, unpredictable, unsuspected, blind-sided, mind-boggling, … you get the idea.
So go for it! Include shots that are dramatic, humorous, evoke emotion, or are just so random and unique that they make you go “Hmmmm.”

As you can see in the photo, mammoths with disabilities and those who travel in groups are accomodated here.

Wow! I almost missed this challenge, but as you can see from the photo of one page in my agenda, I had a very busy week last week.
On top of everything else, there seems to be a serial killer on the loose!
