While the history of the camera is well documented and goes back over one hundred years of its digital cousin has had less attention if I may pun. The history of digital camera starts with a man called Eugene F. Lally who worked in jet propulsion and the development of artificial gravity systems. Outside of work But Lally spent much time studying how to use photosensors to record images digitally mosaic. The use of this technology was not originally planned in the area public, but was instead being used by astronauts in order for the picture of the planets and therefore, find its position in space.
At this point, however, the technology was not yet there to realize these concepts. This work was in the background until 1975, when an engineer Steven Sasson who worked for Eastman Kodak brought together some of the old Motorola existing components with parts of the Kodak and Fairchild CCD. The result was a chamber of size of a toaster that weighed almost four kilos. The images were recorded digitally on a cassette tape and were viewed using a special display. This early model had serious limitations, however, with provision for recording in black and white only, and shutter lag of 23 seconds. However, although the resolution 0.1 mega pixels is poor by today's standards, when it was truly revolutionary. Kodak however, realized the potential for the device and instead focused on the development of the movie camera.
While some digital cameras came into existence during the seventies was until Sony released the Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) in 1981 set the ball to digital phone. Although the Mavica was not a still image camera in the strict sense technology we used was a predecessor of the modern variants. At this stage however, the imaging device stored on floppy disks, each being able to maintain fifty photographs, shutter speed has been improved, however, to one-sixtieth of a second and the device was portable.
In the eighties the true beginning of the digital age, the camera was purely a manifestation of this advance in technology. Fairchild was again instrumental in the creation digital camera real first name across the sky, but that was used to photograph auroras. What made the digital device really is that unlike earlier devices also recorded the images digitally. These early cameras however, go on sale to the mass public, the first device it was the Dycam Model 1, launched in 1990, had a CCD sensor, it stores the pictures in a digital format and can be connected directly to a PC for file transfer image.
None of these devices are affordable, however. It was not until Apple released the Quick Take 100 in 1994 that a camera was available to consumers for the thousand dollar mark. Two years later with the widespread use of the cards of media that digital technology really took off. In 1995, however, an archetypal device was produced by Casio and had all the features and layout design can be seen in modern cameras, such as a screen built into the rear of the device.
Since then, the digital camera has gotten smaller and more affordable. Its development has not been fast, but over time has become a device that is present in almost every household in developed countries. Now is a convenient and useful to videotape and take snapshots of moments in life.
