I was out getting some pics with my new macro lens when I caught this wasp landing on a leaf.  Thought it might work for the silhouette challenge.

When I take my pictures I try to illuminate the subject without thinking about what the image would look like as a silhouette. I guess that's why I had such a hard time finding 3 sort-of silhouettes. Anyway, the first is an island just off of Mallory Square in Key West called Sunset Key. On the island are cottages run by the Hilton Hotel that start at $700 a night and homes that start at about $10 million. I had the pleasure of staying there for a weekend with friends.
Picture 2 is of The Smokey Mountains on the way back to our Vacation rental.
The last picture is of me as I'm getting soaked at MGM's Catastrophe Canyon at MGM. We could use some of that water in Lake Okeechobee.

Well, it was only one dead tree - but a really big one and filled with doves.  According to an article I just read on Google doves love to roost in these dead trees.

G'day Everyone. Sorry I haven't been here for what seems an eternity. It has been a very busy month and the biggest news is that I'm no longer a Beckman Coulter employee. I hope I am still welcome here regardless, but if I need to go, then I understand completely! One would think that my last weeks would be an easy period but it has been so busy trying to get as much done as possible in the time I had left. I start my new job on the 2nd July. Feel free to PM me here for private discussion if you wish.

Consequently, I haven't had much time to comment on all the good work that is appearing this month. I'm certainly not disinterested! Just too many contributions now to go back and comment on individually. I see we have some new contributors too. Great to see and welcome to the club.

I had a trip out to Roma (Queensland) and I thought this shot of the pre-dawn would make a suitable entry into this months challenge.

This was taken shortly before sunrise with a streetlight behind a young oak tree. Oak1 is the original and in Oak2 I used Irfanview to over-sharpen and darken the image for a kind of graphic art feel. All additional permutations were achieved with the “replace color” adjustment in Photoshop.

I have thought of cropping the tree out that is in the right side but when I cropped it out it did not look right to me.

We're back from Branson so I thought I would share a few more pics.

Last Thursday, when leaving the Celebration City amusement park, we saw this very large black ring slowly ascending into the air.  The only think I could think of was some sort of smoke ring.  The strange thing about it was how well it hung together as it rose into the sky.  I thought it would have dissipated rather quickly due to wind, etc.  I did a little research and found that volcanoes, explosions and special machines can all produce them.  I didn't see any obvious source on the ground.  The sight had people stopping all along the highway.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Our week in Kentucky didn’t yield as many pictures as vacations usually do because it was a family reunion. But here are a few shots to go with this month’s challenge. I shot this first one at Cumberland Falls State Park looking out from inside a cave and used the cave entrance as a silhouette to frame the shot. After the VERY long drive from Chaska, MN to Branson, MO on Saturday, we (my wife, 2 daughters under the age of 5 and Grandma) finally arrived at the cabin.  I got up on Sunday morning and was greeted by this very beautiful sight.  I hope to have more scenic pics for you by the time we head for home this Friday.

A day at the park

Spent the entire day shooting with my class - started out at the Rusty Pelican and then went to Downtown Miami (I’m still working on the rest of my pictures).  

This picture was taken from atop the Rusty Pelican just a little before 9 am this morning.  Not at all good in color, but worked for this challenge (I think) in B&W.  It's my first attempt…
