Some times it is seeing something that everyone else sees but seeing it differently.
 This was my nephew's son( 1 1/2 years old)shaddow on the beach at Matherson hammock this last weekend. The way he held his hand created this shaddow.

Capture NX did the rest. We have a UFO Cow flying over the beach dropping purple milk.

I just have not had enough time to work on this challenge.  This last Saturday I was in Indianapolis with nothing to do on the weekend so I headed out into the sunny, but very cold 9 degree weather to try and find something for this challenge.  Just before I was ready to give up I finally found something that would work.  I took the picture with my work camera and then headed back to a warm room and some movies on the TV.  Here is my entry into the "SHADOW CHALLENGE".

While enjoying the sun in San Clemente, I remembered the challenge and came up with one or two possibilities. Attempts to photograph the shadow of a seagull in flight have so far ended in failure !

Finally!!!  I have captured some of those elusive shadows!

I took my two younger children to the Disney Playhouse Live! show at the Abraham Chavez Theater.  While there, I decided to take the kids on a short walking tour of downtown El Paso.  

The "escape" shots were taken on the walls of The Plaza Theatre, which first opened on Sept. 12, 1930.

The "captured" shadows behind bars, were taken at the Convention and Visitors Center, as was my "self shadow."  

My daughter's posed shadows were taken in the gray contrete courtyard outside the Art Museum, and I compiled them into a collage.  Other than the cropping that occurs with the collage template, no other changes were made whatsoever to the photos.  They look like they were taken in black and white, but they were taken in full color.

Whew!!!  I thought I'd never get an entry in to this challenge!  Most days, I leave the house while it's still dark, and return well after sundown.

Hello?  Where is everyone?  Are we are having trouble coming up with ideas for the Shadow Challenge?  Too busy?  We haven't had much activity since before December!  Let's go people, Let's go!

Palm Tree Shadow

Earlier this week we decided to explore an area in the wildlife preserve that we had not previously visited and after being greeted by a young red-tailed hawk we came upon an area that almost resembled the everglades - minus 'gators of course. The lighting made for some interesting shots. I include the grebe as it's unusual to see them on land and this one seemed quite tame. On the way back the sun was quite low and led to some ideas for the challenge. I had thought of calling the shadows on the bush "George" as you could see right through him ! ( hope you are not great fans of GB ! )

These were taken around 10 or 11 a.m. while I was at a classic car show downtown.  I live nearby so I rode my bike.

Like reflections,shadows can make for some interesting shots. Here's a few from my archives. The shot of Steve Young was taken at a 49er's vs Rams game in '92 ( when the Niners actually had a winning team ! ). #2 has a silhouette of three of our group in the bottom right corner and "Bryce Canyon" shows how the cloud cover changes the color of the rock. The sun was almost overhead in Machu Picchu which projected the shadow of the tree around it's base. #5 & # 6 were taken at a 16th century observatory in India. #5 is a huge sundial and #6 traces the passage of the sun by the shadow of the small annulus suspended above a map of the skies.

Since you all are pulling from archives, I remembered I had this one from my Washington, DC trip in July.  We took a day to go see the Great Falls Park in Virginia.  I'm on the right and my 2nd cousin is on the left.  I'll try to also come up with some original entries as well.

This is a shot from the top of the Ferris wheel at Celebration City in Branson MO.  It's the only shot I've found in my archives with a prominent shadow.
